The Nissan 240SX, or S13 Silvia to call it by its JDM designation, makes a nice starting point for a drift car. Nonetheless, while its handling makes a good base for such a project, the engine bay contents aren’t exactly satisfactory at 140 or 155 horses. This is why many 240SX drivers go down the engine swap route and we are here to show you a rather extreme example of this kind.
The unit in the adjacent video shows us a 240SX that was fitted with nothing less than a GM LS1 V8 powerplant. The unit more than doubles the original output of the car. In stock form, the LS1 is good for between 300 and 350 hp, depending on the vehicle it was picked from.
Judging by the soundtrack of the clip, the LS1 has kept its naturally aspirated nature. Then again, it provides more than enough power to send the Nissan to the sideways moon and back. Notice how easy it is for the V8 to steer the car around.
As a delicious side effect of the V8 engine swap job, the Nissan 240SX drift now sounds like it’s running on devils. As the rear end dances throughout the bends, the exhaust acts as a PR department working for the man behind the wheel.
