Lowered Maserati Quattroporte Proves Why the Right Wheels Are so Important

The right set of wheels can have a great influence on how the car looks and drives. Get them too big, and you'll want to call your kyro practitioner after every pot hole you hit. Get them too thin or too thick, and the visual balance of the car can be ruined.

There are plenty of examples out there you can find during your daily commute, I'm sure, but what we're about to show you here is something a bit different.

It's easy to forget that Maserati Quattroporte is a competitor in the limousine segment because people usually stop after Mercedes-Benz S-Class, BMW 7 Series and Audi A8. Occasionally, you'll hear somebody throw Jaguar XJ into the mix, but those are just eccentrics.

My guess is the exterior design of the Maserati Quattroporte is to blame. It has more or less the same shapes as the Granturismo sports car, so most people might find it hard to view it as a luxury limousine, even though it delivers on style and quality. But in a segment where the owners of the car are usually being chauffeured, it's hard to compete with the Mercedes-Benz S-Class in terms of comfort and ride quality.

At the same time, I'm sure it's that same exterior design that convinced tuning outfit Exclusive Motoring to pick it as the showcase vehicle for a new set of rims. Called the CVT Vossen, they come with a particular off-centered design that somehow manages to make the wheels look dynamic even while standing still. Again, not necessarily a feature most people are looking for on a luxury limousine, but a nice thing to have nevertheless.

In our opinion, though, the Maserati Quattroporte is one of those cars with a small greenhouse and a lot of metal, a combination that really calls for somewhat thicker wheels. These CVT Vossen look like they could brake under the visual weight of the car. They're not too far off, but they are a little on the thin side.

But maybe that's just me being picky, because the two make a pretty pleasant pair. Have a look for yourself in the gallery below.
