Lotus Will Be Reborn in Paris

The way in which British carmaker Lotus is advertising its exploits for the past half a year or so has changed dramatically, with the press releases coming from its HQ being anything but ordinary.

The same line of thought can be seen in the statement released yesterday, the day of the summer solstice and the longest day of the year. In yesterday's release, the carmaker announces a revolution and, at the same time, its evolution.

"As peace-loving druids gather to witness the magic of the annual Summer Solstice at one of the UK’s most symbolic landmarks, prepare yourself to witness the dawning of a new era for Lotus," the statement reads.

"Your journey begins here and now on the longest day of the year and exactly 100 days before the 2010 Paris Motor Show where Lotus is set to unveil the future evolution of an iconic British brand."

"They say a picture tells a thousand stories, we’re only really interested in one. Buckle up and join us for the ride. Expect the unexpected."

The picture Lotus is talking about is that of the Stonehenge complex and, truth be told, we fail to make any connections here. The unexpected? Well, speculation runs wild on this one.

On June 21, Lotus released the Elise SC and Exige S RGB special edition models. Somewhere, tucked away in their presentation, the carmaker let slip the death of the Toyota-supplied 1.8l engine, which will no longer meet emission regulations. So, this might be one change.

In terms of cars, people talk about the rebirth of the Esprit (powered by a V8 or even a V10), or possibly a new Elise model. Of course, the possibility of an all-electric Lotus (in our opinion, the most likely-to-be-true rumor) cannot be ignored. After all, we've already seen a preview of such a car, the Evora 414E Hybrid, while the Tesla Roadster is breaking record after record as an electric car built on a Lotus chassis.

We reckon other teasers will follow in the months to come, so stay tuned for further updates.
