Evora is surely going to be a major market hit for Lotus and the living proof is the current status of the car which, in spite of the fact that it currently heads for production, it has already attracted hundreds of orders. A company spokesman told autocar.co.uk that Lotus will manufacture 2,000 cars per year with the first 450 units being the Launch Editions fitted with special features. They will bring bi-xenon headlights, rear-mounted camera for driving in reverse and high-quality sound system, the aforementioned source added.
“We can say that we have several hundred orders worldwide and are ramping up production steadily. Planned full volume production is 2000 cars a year, and we'll reach that in the next few months," the spokesman said.
The 2010 Evora will be powered by a 3.5-liter mid-mounted, transverse, DOHC powerplant that will generate a maximum output of 276 hp at 6,400 rpm and 258 lb-ft of torque at 4,700 rpm. In terms of performance figures, this means the car can achieve a maximum speed of 162 mph (261 km/h), 0-60 mph in 4.9 seconds, 0-100 mph in 12.3 seconds and brake from 100 mph to a standstill in 2.4 seconds or around 33.6 meters.
"The Group is supplying strongly into Europe and the Far East and already the demand at Lotus dealers for the Evora in the USA is significantly beyond initial expectations. Lotus sees this sector as the springboard of the recovery in the UK economy overall - in exciting world-class products, quality manufacturing and strong export sales," Lotus said in a release back in May when announcing the car.
