Lotus Switches to Black and Gold Color Scheme for 2011

We're not sure how the Norfolk-based team will be called next season – 1Malaysia Racing, Team Lotus or Lotus Renault Racing – because of the court dispute between the team and Lotus Cars, but what we do know is that the squad will change its livery for the 2011 campaign of Formula One.

According to the latest press release from Lotus Racing F1, the 2011 challenger will bring back to the series the iconic black & gold combo, which brought so much fame to the original Lotus team back in the '70s and the '80s.

When they presented the new team last year, Tony Fernandes & Co decided on another historic color scheme for their car – Lotus related, of course – namely green and yellow. As far as black and gold is concerned, this livery used to be present on the Lotus F1 cars from the early '70 all the way to the mid-80s, when the team turned to tobacco company Camel for sponsorship.

When we first unveiled our 2010 car there was unanimous praise for our decision to bring the historic green and yellow livery back to the modern F1 grid. I know the return to the track of the legendary black and gold will be met with even more universal support as it strikes such an emotional chord with fans around the world,” said Riad Asmat, Lotus Racing Chief Executive.

In addition to the news, Lotus' Head of Marketing Silvi Schaumloeffel also announced that an online competition destined for fans will be held in the upcoming few months, aiming to find the livery for the 2011 car. More details on it will appear in time on the team's official website.

We want our fans to help us design the livery that will be racing around the world next year. We will shortly be announcing exactly how the fans can take part in our design process,” said Schaumloeffel.

The person who designs the livery we finally choose will be joining us at our first test next year to see the car out on track for the very first time, so for Lotus and F1 fans it is the chance of a lifetime to help us take the next step forward in our amazing story in 2011.”
