We entered the weekend with a huge set of expectations, as Lotus promised that it would unveil a track vehicle that would offer the ultimate racing experience for “civilians”.

Now, the vehicle has made its way to use and we’re more than happy to present it to you. Dubbed the Lotus Exos T125, this is a vehicle inspired from an F1 car. The car is built using a carbon fiber monocoque chassis and uses a wide front wing and a narrow rear one (just like the 2009 season F1 cars). The exhaust has special covers, while the engine gets a shark fin cover.

And the similarities go much further than what we can see at a first glance. In other words, the Exos T125 doesn’t only share its aerodynamics with an F1 racer, but also uses some F1-inspired solutions. Here are some of them: the suspension uses a carbon fiber-built pushrod setup and the brakes are carbon-ceramic. Inside, the driver gets to play with a set of paddle shifters (for the semi-auto gearbox), with the steering wheel including a multi-functional display.

The complex body houses a Cosworth GPV8 powerplant, that allows the driver to rev it up to 10,800 rpm. The 3.5 liter unit has been dowtuned to deliver 650 hp. All the power only has to move 650 kg, which means that the vehicle offers a power to weight ratio of almost 1,000 hp per ton.

The engine’s downtuning means that it now offers increased reliability, with the vehicle offering a much more “down to earth” maintenance schedule than the F1 cars.

As expected, the price for all this is monstrous, with the vehicle retailing for $1 million. Lotus said that only 25 mortals will be allowed to pass the gate into the Exos land. The chosen ones will also be able to take part in 5 driver events, where they will receive full assistance from Lotus’s F1 specialists and pilots.

You can watch Stephen Wright from Lotus Motorsports presenting the Exos T125 philosophy in the video below:
