Lotus Excited with Great First Test on the T127. Gallery!

Everything seems to go just fine for Lotus F1 Team, following their first official test with the new T127 model. The Malaysian-backed team put reserve driver Fairuz Fauzy into the car for Day 1 of testing on the Jerez circuit, mainly because the GP2 racer needed the extra mileage in order to secure a FIA super license for potential F1 racing in 2010.

Although the car lacked power steering due to a last-minute problem from one of the team's suppliers – added to the fact that Fauzy had to drive the T127 in rainy conditions – the team's officials revealed their satisfaction over the first day of action, emphasizing on the fact that the 2010 single-seater had no reliability problems through its 76 laps of running.

It’s been an excellent day for the whole team,” said the team's technical chief Mike Gascoyne after the test had successfully ended.

With the car we had no major reliability issues – a few niggles with overheating which were quickly solved and then the car ran pretty faultlessly. The power steering issue will be fixed for tomorrow so all in all a very successful first day and a busy evening ahead preparing the car for tomorrow,” added the Lotus official.

To arrive here and complete 76 laps is fantastic. It was a big challenge, both to complete the 300kms I need for the Super License, and with no power steering it was difficult to drive in the dry, not so bad in the wet, so I was driving a bit conservatively but I am just very pleased,” added Fauzy.

The Malaysian driver set the 11th best time of the day on Wednesday (from 12 drivers testing yesterday), finishing the session ahead of Virgin Racing's Timo Glock – who only completed 10 laps through the entire day. Fauzy will hand the testing responsibilities to Heikki Kovalainen for the Thursday and Friday sessions, before Jarno Trulli will conclude testing on Saturday.
