When the British manufacturer introduced the Evora 2+2 two-door coupe back in 2008, fans of the brand and new-to-Lotus gearheads got very ecstatic over it. But that was a heck of a long time ago, which is why the magic wore off and next year it’ll get a facelift.
A model this old shouldn’t be treated with a run-of-the-mill revamp, alright, but Lotus is in big financial turmoil at the present, with a lot of debt to take care of too. This is why a second-gen isn’t going to happen. “We won’t have the funds to build all-new cars in the next few years,” said CEO Jean-Marc Gales. “In any case our existing platforms have plenty of potential.”

Speaking to the Brits from AutoCar, Lotus’ helmsman didn’t offer any specific details on what does that mean for the Evora, but we have one or two ideas about what’s in store. Assume the Toyota 3.5 V6 will get a minor output bump and assume the aluminum tub will remain almost unchanged, while the suspension will get moderately revised.

A refreshed cabin with up-to-date technology should be on the menu as well

However, unless Lotus cuts €15,000 off the €72,300 starting price of the base model, then the revised Evora won’t sell any better than it does at the moment because that's Porsche money. In addition to this bit of Geneva Motor Show 2015 news, Gales disclosed that Lotus is gearing up for more goodies.

The chief exec told the previously mentioned publication that the near future will bring a plethora of racing-focused models. These upcoming cars are going to give Porsche a run for its money, he said, which is a bit of an enthusiastic statement, alright. Still, only time will tell if a lightened Cup model lineup, a 2-Eleven-like vehicle based on the Exige S and such will be on par with the best Germany has to offer.
