Lotus' new Evija electric hypercar seems to bring the eagerly anticipated revival of the British brand. And while its plug-only nature makes for quite a twist in the Lotus story, we recently learned the entire allocation for the first year of production (in excess of 100 units) has already been spoken for. How about racing plans? Well, it's too early for the carmaker to discuss this and this is where digital artists step onto the stage, hence the Evija rendering we have here.
The Norfolk-based automaker is expected to start delivering the 1,973 bhp electric monster later this year. And while company founder Colin Chapman used to build racecars and road cars following his "simplify, then add lightness," principle, the 1,680 kg scale footprint of the vehicle might not seem scale-friendly, but this actually makes for such a proposal, albeit in the electric vehicle context.

Returning to the rendering mentioned in the intro, the pixel work we have here envisions a racing-style incarnation of the Lotus Evija - is this destined for the track or are we looking at a potential road-going special? Well, at least judging by what we can see in these images, an all-out motorsport animal seems more likely.

Digital artist Gurdeep Panesar has gifted the electric hypercar with a few front apron updates, but the attention magnet here is the massive fin that spreads from the front of the roof to the posterior of the vehicle.

The color-coded nature of the said fin does make the Evija look a bit like a sea creature, this would only make for a memorable nickname on the track. Sadly, we get to enjoy few such adventures these days, even though the history books pack plenty of examples, from the Ferrari La Camionette to the Porsche Pink Pig.

The old-school racing wheels we see here contrast with the futuristic design of the Evija and, at least to these eyes, the mix is stable, motorsport rubber included.
