Lotus Discontinues Europa

Lotus Europa is about to be removed from the sportscar manufacturer’s vehicle line-up, as the model’s target audience will be covered by the new Evora.

According to Autoblog, the Lotus European dealer network is no longer taking orders for the model, with the car entering the production slow-down phase.

Lotus Europa was introduced to the market at the 2006 Geneva Auto Show, with the vehicle using a lightweight structure that combines aluminum alloy and fiber glass. The car used fully independent suspension, with a sporty setup: it had unequal length wishbones, Bilstein mono-tune dampers with Eibach coil springs and a strong anti-roll front bar.

The Europa S base version is powered by a 2.0-liter powerplant that uses turbocharging to offer 200 hp at 5,400 rpm and 200 lb-ft of torque (272 Nm) at 5,400 rpm, mated to a six-speed manual gearbox. The engine pushes the 2193 lbs (995 kg) coupe to 62 mp/h (100 km/h) in 5.8 seconds, offering it a top speed of 143 mph (230 km/h).

Lotus introduced the Europa SE at the 2008 Geneva Motor Show, with the model being more comfort-orientated and having the aim to target a wider audience. However, the car's engine has been tweaked to produce 225 hp at 5,700 rpm and 222 lb-ft (301 Nm) of torque. The unit allows the vehicle to leave the 62 mph (100 km/h) mark behind in 5.3 seconds and reach a top speed of 150.4 mph (242 km/h).

Lotus Evora uses a naturally aspirated 3.5-liter engine that delivers 276 hp at 6,400 rpm and a maximum torque of 252 lb-ft (342 Nm) at 4,700 rpm. The Grand Tourer only needs 5 seconds to cover the 0 to 62 mph (100 km/h) sprint and offers a top speed of 160 mph (257 km/h).
