Lotus has released two photos of the C-01 bike, the company's first-ever motorcycle.
First announced in June 2013, with a prospected delivery in late 2013 or in 2014, the C-01 was a bike surrounded by mystery, as no sketches surfaced. The only thing known was that renowned designer Daniel Simon was in charge of the styling.

If anything, the Lotus C-01 is an intriguing presence, as far as the two photos show. In the absence of any other details we can only speculate that the C-01 builds on a monocoque chassis.

Styled more like a drag bike or a retro power cruiser, the Lotus bike harks back to the cafe-racer era, with it's flat basepan and mini rear hump, low bars with bar-end mirrors and dual rear shocks.

The headlight casing looks like a re-interpretation of old MZ bikes and we guess it's a matter of love or hate.

Lotus C-01 is said to be powered by a tuned 200 hp v-twin, with a KTM RC8R mill being the most credible rumor.

We'll all be able to pass a more in-the-know judgement after more technical details emerge. Until then, it's down to keep on staring at these Lotus-rendered images of the C-01 and at least acknowledge it as a very neat design exercise.
