Lorinser, the German tuning company most known for its programs involving Mercedes-Benz cars, also tunes smart models.
Their latest press release announces a power kit for the smart fortwo and forfour. It is a software upgrade for the original ECU of the 0.9-liter engine, but it brings significant enhancements concerning output and performance. Thanks to the improvement, the 0.9-liter engine delivers 24 HP on top of the standard unit, as well as a 45 Nm (33 lb-ft) increase in torque.
Lorinser charges 990 euros including tax for the package. The resulting model will provide 114 HP at 5,400 rpm, with a peak torque of 180 Nm (133 lb-ft) at 2,148 rpm. With the increased output, a smart forfour is capable of reaching a top speed of 184 km/h (114 mph), which is 19 km/h (11 mph) over the standard model.
Meanwhile, in a smart fortwo customized by Lorinser, a courageous owner could drive at 168 km/h (104 mph) if desired, which is 13 km/h (8 mph) faster than standard. Acceleration improvements are not announced, but we would not rule them out if we were you.
Adding 24 HP to a car that is the size of the smart and had less than 100 hp is an increase of over 25%, which is bound to bring an enhancement of acceleration abilities.
Other tuning elements offered include 17-inch alloy wheels, a lowering kit, a sports exhaust, front and rear bumper add-ons, and a set of side skirts.
The inside of the two smart models can receive a trunk mat, a set of floor mats, as well as a three-piece pedal set made from anodized aluminum, leather-trimmed hand-brake lever, a set of valve caps, a metal footrest, and various Lorinser logos.
The German tuning company has already specified that customers can request further customization of their cars, if desired. At the end of the day, it is all about how much you are willing to invest in a vehicle.
