After the first IRTA test of the year, at Sepang, Movistar Yamaha's Jorge Lorenzo looked quite comfortable with his solid advantage over his teammate, but he knows that it's still Rossi whom the house of Iwata prefers more.
The reigning 2015 MotoGP Champion ended the Sepang test with an advantage of almost one second over Rossi, and with Pramac's Danilo Petrucci and Avintia's Hector Barbera between them. Lorenzo showed a good physical condition, even though he was on antibiotics and he says that he was far from feeling at his best.
Still, even though he was the only rider to bring world titles to Yamaha after Rossi's last championship back in 2009, Lorenzo says that he feels like Iwata will always love VR46 more. "It's normal," he says. "Rossi is very popular, and he helps Yamaha increase the motorcycle sales. He is beneficial for the brand, both on and off the track," Lorenzo adds.
Still, the Mallorcan denies any such rumors, saying that, even when things were far from being all cool and okay, he never thought about leaving the house of the three tuning forks. Indeed, it's been more than once when Lorenzo has said that he plans to end his MotoGP career at Yamaha, but then again, who would have thought that Rossi would sign with Ducati, right?
Lorenzo says that he admires Rossi for being capable of keeping a high pace despite being 37, and proving a lot of guys wrong while at it. The Spaniard plans to focus on riding and is thankful for Yamaha being supportive and trusting his potential, insella says.
If you ask us, Lorenzo is making the smart move and is focusing on defending his crown, having understood that Rossi is probably at his all-time high in the preferences of both fans and media, and that his "mojo" is impossible to fight, no matter who won the season.
