It’s no secret that the guys in MotoGP are involved in other types of races, on both two and four wheels. After the last checkered flag flies at Valencia and the post-race tests are over, these fellows get to enjoy their well-deserved rest… even though some will just swap liveries and have fun. After we saw Valentino Rossi finishing second in the Monza Rally Show, (follow the link for some really neat drift action), it’s time for Jorge Lorenzo and Marc Marquez to shine.
The youngest MotoGP champion preferred the relative safety of sliding two wheels on the Barcelona dirt in the Superprestigio race, while Lorenzo has been up to 4-wheeled endurance racing in Abu Dhabi. Both won the first place, as a most rewarding way to end the 2014 season.

Lorenzo drives a Ferrari, win Gentlemen’s class at Gulf 12 Hours

Lorenzo’s race at Abu Dhabi is one he will want to remember, not only because the Kessel Racing he was part of won the class, but because this happened the first time he raced behind the wheel of a Ferrari. As we reported earlier, Lorenzo drove a Ferrari 453 GT3 Challenge Evo, with Australian Liam Talbot, Jacques Duvyers (UK) and Marco Zanuttini (Italy) being his other three team mates.

Team Kessel Racing completed 261 laps around the Yas Marina Circuit, but Lorenzo crashed the Ferrari around 30 minutes before the end of the race. The advantage was however big enough to secure the class win for Lorenzo and his team. Some might say that the Gentlemen class, with only one more team as opponents is hardly a class, but a win is a win.

Even more, Lorenzo and Kessel Racing have finished the Gulf 12 Hours race on position 13th overall from a total of 23 teams, which is a rather good performance with other pro-class drivers.

Marquez wins the Superprestigio

This year’s Superprestigio DTX even in Barcelona has gathered ten world champions from across multiple motorcycling classes, plus other names in the GP. Moto2 and Moto3 title winners Tito Rabat and Alex Marquez have been present, alongside Bradley Smith, Scott Redding, at his DTX debut, FIM CEV Repsol Superbike Champion Kenny Noyes, Jared Mees, the reigning AMA Grand National Champion.

Marquez claimed victory with a tiny lead of only 0.298 seconds, followed by Mees and Noyes for the podium. Last year’s Superprestigio winner Brad Baker dislocated a shoulder in a crash occurred in practice and had to abandon.
