Lorenzo Unhappy with Yamaha Offer

The love story between FIAT Yamaha Team and Jorge Lorenzo seems to be going nowhere according to recent reports, as the Spaniard admitted he is not at all satisfied with what the Italian outfit has offered him in order to sign a contract extension. The two-time 250cc champion will end his deal with Yamaha at the end of 2009 and is yet to commit to a racing seat for the upcoming season.

Last month, the FIAT Yamaha officials revealed, in an interview with Gazzetta dello Sport, that they will not raise the stakes in Lorenzo's case when it comes to a potential contract extension. The Spaniard was reportedly offered a deal by Honda also, but no official information was disclosed to the media.

As for the Yamaha extension, Lorenzo made it very clear that he is not happy with his team's offer but that he will not make any decisions on his future for the time being.

I don't know, I think that we need to wait some more. I feel very proud that people are interested in me. But I think I'm one of the riders who can beat Valentino in the future. I'm fighting with him at the moment, and I think my worth is greater than what Yamaha is offering me at the moment. We'll see what happens in the future,” Lorenzo was quoted as saying by Italian broadcaster Italia 1, as reported by British magazine Autosport.

Lorenzo is currently second overall in the riders' classification, after scoring 2 wins and 5 podiums in the first 8 rounds of 2009. He is trailing teammate Valentino Rossi by 14 points heading into the summer break and is regarded as the Italian's main rival for this year's title.
