Lorenzo Tops First Practice at Brno

The Yamaha riders ruled the day during the first practice session of the Czech Republic Grand Prix, as Jorge Lorenzo and Valentino Rossi were the only riders to break the one minute and 57 seconds mark after the 90-minute of action.

Lorenzo eventually went on to finish the day on top of the time charts, with the best time of 1:56.595, while followed by the reigning MotoGP champion some 0.399 seconds behind. The Spaniard dominated the entire afternoon, although under constant pressure from Rossi, and managed to continuously improve his lap times until finally the Italian had to settle for 2nd place.

Third overall was Honda's Dani Pedrosa, who scored his fastest time of the day in the dying laps of the practice session. However, his best was no less than 0.7 seconds slower than Rossi, which puts him under a lot of pressure ahead of the Saturday qualifying. Yamaha made it 3 out of 4 thanks to Tech 3's Calin Edwards, who managed to finish the session ahead of Donington Park's winner Andrea Dovizioso.

The Italian rider was struggling in the mid-pack all day until recording a late surge in the session, to top Toni Elias's time (Honda Gresini). Seventh overall was none other that Finland's Mika Kallio, who performed admirably on his works Ducati GP9. His teammate, more experienced rider Nicky Hayden, could only manage the 12th fastest time on Friday.

The overall Top 10 was completed by Honda Gresini's Alex de Angelis, who also crashed out of the session in his very last lap on the Brno circuit, Suzuki's Loris Capirossi and Hayate Racing's Marco Melandri.
