Lorenzo Still In Pain after Australia Crash

Although wrapping up the first practice session of the Malaysian Grand Prix on Friday morning, Spanish rider Jorge Lorenzo revealed he is still in quite a lot of pain following his crash in the Australian Grand Prix.

The Yamaha rider managed to edge Ducati's Casey Stoner by 0.064 seconds in P1 today, while more than half of second ahead of teammate and championship rival Valentino Rossi. Despite his good performance, Lorenzo admitted that a finger cut was constantly affecting him physically when braking.

I was riding quite aggressively today and I felt good on the bike right from the start, so I am very happy about this after what happened last weekend. Our bike is working well though,” said Lorenzo.

Unfortunately I have some pain in my finger where I hurt it on Sunday, it's not too bad but the cut is right on the knuckle, so it's painful when I have to bend it to brake,” added the Spaniard, who needs to win both races remained in the MotoGP calendar this season in order to still hope for his maiden championship crown.

Rossi is currently holding a 38-point lead over Lorenzo in the overall classification with 2 rounds to go and needs to finish at least 4th overall (or better) in order to wrap up his 7th career title in the MotoGP.

Talking about the Sunday race, Rossi emphasized the importance of grid position for the Malaysian race, insisting that he needs to find better grip on the Bridgestone tires in order to have a quiet afternoon two days from now.

It's going to be very important to be on the front row on Sunday. And to do this, we still need to find some more grip. We worked mainly with old tires to understand the nature of the bike when it’s sliding, which is important because the track is quite dirty,” said Rossi, following the first practice on Friday.
