Lorenzo Recovers Well after Hand Injury

Although missing the last MotoGP test in Sepang due to a hand injury he picked up in a motocross accident, Spanish rider Jorge Lorenzo managed some consistent good lap times in Day 1 of the Qatar night tests this week. The 2009 MotoGP runner-up scored the 7th best time of the first test, some second and a half behind his teammate Valentino Rossi.

The Italian again dominated the testing session, while Lorenzo only settled to become more comfortable in his new Yamaha bike prior to the season opening round in Qatar. While starting the session quite poorly, he improved his pace continuously last night. More importantly though, he felt little pain on the hand that he injured 6 weeks ago.

It's really good to be back on my bike and actually when I went out on track the first time today my hand felt better than I had expected. The pain has decreased a lot in the last few days and I've been doing a lot of physio to make sure I'm in the best possible shape for this test,” said Lorenzo after his 3rd outing on his Yamaha this year.

I was able to do quite a lot of laps today and my time is not so bad in the end, it's definitely interesting and important to be here and see our level after missing the last test. Dainese have made me a bigger glove and I have some protection on the hand; changing direction is okay, it's just the hard braking areas where I have some problems,” added the Spaniard.

Rossi topped the timing reports with the best time of 1:55.402, while followed some 3 tenths of a second behind by Casey Stoner and more than half of second by Tech 3 Yamaha's Ben Spies. Colin Edwards and Randy de Puniet completed the Top 5.
