Lorenzo Hates "Favorite" Tag for 2011

Jorge Lorenzo might have become the new MotoGP world champion in dominant fashion this year, but he aims much higher than that in the future. Rather than being the favorite on paper at the beginning of each MotoGP campaign, the Spaniard would mostly like to become the crowd's favorite. Something that, let's admit it, it's hard to accomplish with Valentino Rossi still in the series.

Talking to crash.net about his incredible campaign this year, which saw him clinch the world title 3 races to the end and secure no less than 9 wins in 18 racer, the Spaniard admitted he's not at all comfortable with the “favorite” tag that he has on his back ahead of the 2011 season.

I don't like this 'favourite' thing, though,” said Lorenzo in an exclusive interview with the aforementioned source, conducted by Russell Atkins. “All the riders start on zero points before the first race, and if you want to keep winning and stay at the top, you need to work and work.”

If you stop working, everybody passes you. We need to keep working and aiming to be the people's favorite – that's what I'd like,” further revealed the Yamaha rider.

Nevertheless, when thinking about what made him wear that “favorite” tag on his back, Lorenzo can't feel but satisfied and enthused with his incredible run in the recently ended campaign.

It was almost perfect, because to finish with nine victories and being on the podium in nearly every race, you can't ask for anything more, for sure. Every rider in the world wants to be world champion in any category, but especially in MotoGP. It's the maximum you can achieve in the motorcycling world, and we did it,” he added.
