Lorenzo Breaks Brno Track Record to Claim Authoritative Win

Movistar Yamaha rider Jorge Lorenzo claimed another victory at the Automotodrom Brno in the Czech Republic Grand Prix. While to some the early race looked like the previous one, with Marc Marquez tagging along and waiting for the Mallorcan to make a mistake, things were different this time.

First off, Lorenzo proved he was in a great shape as he delivered the best pole ever at Brno, setting a new fastest lap of 1'54.989. The front row also saw Marquez and Rossi, but the Italian's weak start cost him any chance to battle for the race win.

Lorenzo had a flawless race, without any hesitations and gradually opened up the gap between him and Marquez. Lap after lap, the Mallorcan showed that the Sunday was his, denying MM93 any chance to even start planning a credible attack.

Rossi's start denied him any chance to battle for the lead

Though starting off from third on the grid, Valentino Rossi took a slow start, and he was caught behind Bradley Smith and Andrea Dovizioso. Smith once more confirmed that he was one of the best starters on the grid, as he darted through the other bikes to an early battle for the
fourth place.

However, having to sort out things with the two riders in front of him deprived Rossi of the pace he needed to keep up with Lorenzo and Marquez. The Doctor ended up on the podium, after a rather solitary race in third.

Iannone managed another great finish in fourth as he proves to be in a better shape than his teammate Andrea Dovizioso, who constantly switched places late in the race with Dani Pedrosa. The Repsol Honda rider had an injured leg but fought valiantly, eventually getting ahead of Dovizioso dozens of meters before reaching the finish line.

Smith was seventh, ahead of his Tech3 teammate Pol Espargaro, who, in turn, finished the race in front of his brother Aleix. Danilo Petrucci rounded up the top ten, consolidating his position in relation with his Pramac teammate Yonny Hernandez. Redding was 12th, while Bradl clawed two points in his second race aboard Aprilia machinery and is looking more and more confident.

No less than four riders failed to finish the race, with Maverick Vinales and Cal Crutchlow going down at Turn 11, joining the ranks of Eugene Laverty and Alex de Angelis. Cardion AB's Karel Abraham rejoined racing in his home round (and on his family's circuit) and was almost lapped by Lorenzo at the checkered flag.

Five more rounds at Brno, the riders get to test Michelin tires once more after the race

It looks like the management of the Automotodrom Brno, Dorna and the local authorities have finally reached an agreement, as Grand Prix racing will be present in the Czech Republic in the future. A 5-year contract was signed upon agreeing on the financial matters that almost got the last weekend's race canceled.

The second tire test is now taking place at Brno, as all the teams are meeting the Michelin rubber. Michelin will replace Bridgestone as the Official Tire Supplier to the MotoGP next season, and the riders and teams have the opportunity to catch up with the developments of the new tires.

Even though Michelin is holding sessions at most MotoGP venues after the race, Brno is only the second time when all the teams can test the new tires. The first such occasion was back in February at Sepang.

Next, MotoGP is heading for the UK, with Lorenzo and Rossi on par, with 211 points each, but the Spaniard is in the lead, with five wins, as opposed to Rossi's three, followed by Marquez with 159 points and Iannone with 142. Bradley is fifth in the world standing with 106 points, but his place is anything but safe with Dovizioso only two points behind.

If anything, Marquez can think about a championship podium, but one of the main conditions is to avoid crashing out of a race until the season ends.
