Lorenzo Admits Having Problems with New Bike

Although he consistently improved his lap times during the Sepang testing this week, Yamaha's Jorge Lorenzo is not very pleased with his progress with the new YZR-M1. The Spaniard admitted that he still has a lot of problems when braking and is yet to match Valentino Rossi's cornering speed.

With one more day of testing ahead, Lorenzo agrees he needs to make the most of it in order to match his teammate's lap times. Unless he will improve his performances on the aforementioned sectors, Lorenzo agreed he cannot feel one with the bike.

“Today was still quite difficult, although I am improving slowly. On this second day we have worked on our braking, because we have seen that Valentino is braking sooner than me and so I need to adapt. I need to use the hours we have and the available tires in the best way possible, but that's the same for everybody,” argued Lorenzo.

“My main problems at the moment are the braking and the corner speed. Right now I don't feel at one with the bike and this means I don't have the confidence to ride fast. I know I can be faster than this because my bike isn't much different to Valentino's and he is quicker than me,” continued the two-time 250cc champion.

He avoided blaming the new tires for his poor lap times, although he debuted on Bridgestone rubber at Sepang. He ran on Michelin tires last year, in his first season in the series. However, Tech 3 Yamaha's Colin Edwards – who is in the same situation as Lorenzo – managed to score better lap times on both Thursday and Friday sessions.

“Of course he was using Bridgestones last year as well and I am new to them, but Colin is also fast so this shows how competitive the bike is,” argued Lorenzo.
