Sometimes, it’s the criminals who give police officers a hard time, fleeing justice and leading them on high-speed, dangerous chases.
Other times, it’s a sheep that does it. It happened a few days in Carlisle, Cumbria, the UK, and it’s the most hilarious thing you’ll probably see all day. Officers had their hands full catching the sheep that had gone loose, but their mission was eventually successful.

The sheep got away from its rightful owner and was strolling through the city center. Concerned passers-by called the cops to handle the situation, and they had no choice but to comply. But they probably didn’t imagine it would be as hard as it turned out to be.

One Cumbria Police spokesperson confirms the incident, saying only that “Police attended and a short time later caught the sheep and returned it to its owner.”

However, as you can see in the video at the bottom of the page, the mission also included a slow-speed chase and at least another chase, this time on foot. It was as if the sheep was determined to mock the officers by not letting itself get caught.

Luckily, whoever’s handling the department Twitter account has a sense of humor. They posted the video of the chase, perhaps knowing it would go viral, with a caption that makes up for the officers’ repeated failed attempts at catching a poor sheep.

“A challenging pursuit this morning in Carlisle,” reads the caption. “A big thanks to the residents of Coledale Meadows for assisting in detaining the subject who is now safe and sound behind baaars.”

Oh, so they needed help from civilians, too! Given the current wave of crime sweeping the UK, no wonder many comments are rushing to say stuff like “where’s a criminal when you need one,” suggesting that the cops are wasting their time with trivial pursuits, to avoid doing any actual work.
