Longford Revival Festival Coming

Australia is preparing to hold an extraordinary automotive event: the country’s most spectacular road and racing cars and bikes will gather in Northern Tasmania on the first weekend of April for the inaugural edition of the Longford Revival Festival Shannons Show & Shine.

The Shannons Super Rig (you can see it in the adjacent image), which includes a stage, a public address system, a lounge, games consoles and a rooftop Grandstand, is visiting Tasmania for the first time. The insurance company announced that around 150 four- and two-wheeled creations will take part in each day of the event, which is scheduled for April 2-3.

The visitors will also be able to enjoy the Shannons racing car simulator, which has been created as a replica of the historic Longford Grand Prix circuit, offering players a chance to race back in time. In addition to that, eight-time Targa Tasmania winner and reigning Touring Car Masters champion Jim Richards, together with this new Porsche 911 GT2 RS, will be present over the weekend to meet enthusiasts and sign autographs. The list of special guests also includes fellow Touring Car legends Allan Moffat and Bob Jane.

Shannons will not only have a passive presence at the Festival. The famous Shannons Goggomobil Dart will be the Flag Car for each day’s track activities and is slated to make runs on the famous Longford ‘Flying Mile’,” stated the press release.

Powered by a 239cc two stroke, two cylinder engine producing a prodigious 9kW, the Dart is not expected to pose a serious challenge to any of the high horsepower racing and road cars that will test their mettle on the mile over the weekend, but Shannons Tasmania’s Business Development Manager Rodney Belbin says it will surprise many people.”
