Longest Nails in the World Broken in Car Crash

Being a world-record holder is certainly a reason of pride and as far as we know many people have struggled a lot to get their page in the Guinness Book. So, the moment you lose the thing that made you famous may be a true tragedy.

A woman from Utah who was currently holding the world record for the longest fingernails on Earth has lost them in a car accident on Tuesday, February 11, kpho.com has learned. Lee Redmond hasn't cut her nails since 1979 but now her record is history as they were completely ruined in the crash.

Salt Lake County Sheriff's Lt. Don Hutson reported that the woman was ejected from a SUV in the accident and was taken to hospital with serious injuries. Fortunately, the crash didn't threaten her life.

According to the Guinness Book Web site, her fingernails measured a total of more than 28 feet long in 2008, with the longest nail on her right thumb at 2 feet, 11 inches. In fact, it was the nails that made Redmond famous across the world, benefiting from unexpected media attention. She has been featured on TV in episodes of "Guinness Book of World Records" and "Ripley's Believe It or Not."

To us, the length of her nails is more than horrifying, making us wonder a lot of questions about the woman's life. How did she manage to wash herself, eat or sleep without harming her nails?

Although her record is now gone and she will most probably exit the sight of the vigilant media's eyes, we think Redmond should be satisfied she's alive as crashes of this kind can end up really ugly. Trust us!
