London Biker Thieves Behind Bars

The gang of bikers behind several robberies at London’s top stores were finally arrested and sentenced for a total of 22 years and seven months imprisonment or youth detention. The six men were using a sledgehammer to break into the stores and then made a quick getaway thanks to their motorcycles.

“Offences of this type have cost the business community millions of pounds over the past few years in and around London and resulting in a significant increase in offences,” said Detective Chief Inspector Frank McGowan, of Westminster Police for times-series.co.uk. “We have steadily identified and arrested those responsible and as well as being a clear deterrent to others who commit these type of offences.”

“I hope that this result sends a message to those contemplating committing such offences that the police, the CPS and our partners in the business community will continue to pursue and prosecute those individuals in a robust manner,”
Detective Sergeant Richard Baker of Westminster Crime Squad added.

The convicted bikers are suspected of being a part of the “Fagin’s Kitchen” gang of between 30 and 50 connected individuals, many of the them teenagers from the Islington estates, who robbed stores in less than a minute using high-powered and usually stolen motorbikes or scooters.

Stores targeted included Harvey Nichols, jewellers Dinny Hall and Asprey, designer handbag shop Anya Hindmarch and Jimmy Choo's shoe shop.

Police had struggled to arrest them because of the swiftness with which they struck and the difficulty of engaging in high-speed chases through crowded streets. Stolen goods were sold online for much less than their in-store value.
