Loeb Tips Sordo for 2010 WRC Title

Sebastien Loeb needed his teammate Dani Sordo to deliver an outstanding performance in his home rally last weekend, and the Spaniard did not disappoint him. The Citroen driver who is yet to win a WRC event in his career drove a perfect rally in the first two days, after which he let his teammate pass him for the 10 points he needed in the title fight against Mikko Hirvonen.

As a result, Loeb is now only one point behind Hirvonen in the overall classification and has control over the title fight with one round to go in the season. While thanking Sordo for the great effort he put up last weekend, Loeb reckoned his teammate will be a tough contender for the championship next season. However, we can't help it from wondering if this is only a “thank you” gift from Loeb or he really means it.

Dani is a very good team-mate. With the possible exception of Mikko (Hirvonen), Dani is the best team-mate I can have. He has definitely improved and got quicker since last year. Look at Finland, he was very fast there. He has been impressive through the year – he can win next season,” said Loeb after Rally Spain.

It's no surprise to see how fast Dani was in Catalunya; on asphalt, we know that and next year there are four asphalt rallies, so it can be good for him. But it's no longer just asphalt, Dani can be fast everywhere. He will be a threat,” added the Frenchman.

Thanks to his performance in Catalonia, Sordo practically secured his seat with Citroen Total for an additional season, even though for less money than in 2009. He'll stay at Citroen on the same deal as before, meaning a full season in 2010 with an extension option for 2011.

I'm happy to still be with the team for another year, I know them all and it works well. I've learned more again this season and I've got more confidence for the future. I think next year can be better again and, of course, I will be aiming to win rallies,” added the Spaniard.
