Local Motors Needs Your Ideas to Design a New Car

The all-mighty Rally Fighter, the first 3D printed car, an awesome Racer vintage motorcycle, these are the machines Local Motors is famous for. But what’s next? Apparently, they want to make a lightweight, efficient car and you’re all invited to help.

So if you love cars and have a vision for a future lightweight car, you can submit your project until March 6th, 2015 in the LITECAR challenge. The two requirements address mass reduction in a sedan configuration passenger car that can accommodate 5 passengers and the need of compliance with current safety standards.

Oh, you also have to make sure tha car uses the actual roadway infrastructure, so no in-road chargers, or rail systems and don’t forget the environmental impact. After all that’s the whole project’s idea, building a very efficient car.

If your idea gets the top position, you’ll get a $60,000 prize out of the total $150,000 cash pool. And you also have the chance to put your name among the bright minds that changed the auto industry if your solutions works and the car reaches production.

So go take a pencil and get creative. You can include 3D renderings with your concept if you’re good with such software and don’t forget to put in as much details as possible to increase your chances. More details about the challenge can be found on Local Motor's page here.
