Delaware-based shop Loaded Gun Customs take much pleasure in bringing to life more and more truly nice cafe-racers after dismantling old rides and having their way with them. This is exactly what happened to a '72 Triumph Bonneville: now baptized the 72 Mono Racer, the old Hinkley motorcycle has changed for the better, we daresay.
LGC take the meaning of “custom” very seriously, so that's why the 72 Mono Racer only retains the (rebuilt) engine and center frame as original parts. Taking a closer look at it will show just how much is changed, from the special CNC components to nickel plating and other things which aren't as obvious.
The 72 Mono Racer got a Yamaha XS650 fork which received new springs and valves and to which clip-on handles have been attached in a low, retro, racing-approved position. The rear of the old Bonneville got a Ducati swing arm, which now links to the RaceTech single shock under the seat, in a manner as “un-Bonnevillesque” as possible.
We totally love the simple and yet utterly sporty subframe, as it adds an even more alluring touch to the project. The suede seat was a very interesting choice, with its color beautifully complementing the white of the bike.
Not sure how will the white exhausts perform after some months of serious riding, but we must admit that they look as nice as they are unexpected. A great, interesting approach by all means!
