Liuzzi Says Points Are Not Impossible for Hispania

Hispania's HRT F111 will enter the 2011 Australian Grand Prix without a single mile of testing, yet the team's new race driver Vitantonio Liuzzi already has some bold targets for the upcoming F1 season. According to the Italian, point finishes should not be scrapped from Hispania's list of objectives in 2011.

Liuzzi believes reliability will be a must in the campaign to come, and trusts his team to have done a good job at that particular chapter in car development through the winter. With so many cars struggling with reliability issues in testing, the former Force India driver believes certain circumstances might see a HRT F111 inside the Top 10 at the chequered flag.

There is always a chance (to score points),” said Liuzzi, according to Autosport. “It seems that there are some teams struggling quite a bit for reliability, so seeing the chequered flag will be the most important thing for us.

“If there's a bit of rain or a chaotic race like last year's or in previous years, we have a good chance. It's really important for us to understand how the car reacts and to finish the race.”

Some reports in recent days have hinted that Hispania may be running into deep financial problems before the start of the season, but team owner Jose Ramon Carabante made it very clear the other day that not only his cars will be on the grid in Australia, but they will also feature a brand new aerodynamic package.

That being said, Liuzzi admitted that both him and his teammate Narain Karthikeyan will do as many laps as possible at the wheel of their 2011-spec car on Friday – during the first two practice sessions – in order to get a good deal of information on how the car behaves on the Pirelli tires.

We have three hours on Friday to understand the reaction of everything - ride height, springs, dampers, aero mapping, mechanical balance,” added Liuzzi. “It will be a really important day for us and we will hopefully have dry weather because it helps you to understand better that everything is working in the right way. We will try to do as many laps as we can with both cars to get the best information for the team.”
