We've recently enjoyed spyshots portraying the upcoming 992 Porsche 911 GT3 in both standard (if such an adjective is ever fit for a GT Neunelfer) and Touring Package (fingers crossed). However, the time has now come to enjoy the song of the rear-engined machine's naturally aspirated flat-six.
A prototype wearing a fixed-wing was spotted doing its thing during yesterday's Nurburgring industry testing session, with the atmospheric soundtrack, joined by that of the vehicle's expected PDK.

Sure, it's fascinating to zoom in on the new swan neck wing (confirmed in this ad), the more generous rear diffuser, the 1973 Carrera RSR-like central front intake and the new vented frunk lid. However, as far as the said tech side is concerned, this is yet another example of Zuffenhausen being proficient at hiding new hardware in plain sight.

To be more precise, the exact engine choice of the new GT3 is still not clear. For one, the machine could always use a further evolution of the 4.0-liter boxer animating the range-topping 718 models, which was developed based on the 992 Carrera's twin-turbo 3.0-liter mill.

Then again, engineers could also massage the 4.0-liter motor powering the 991.2 swansong that is the 911 Speedster - compared to the 991.2 GT3 heart it is based on, this already features gasoline particulate filters, thus complying with the latest European emission regulations.

Regardless, the pedal on the right is expected to control up to 550 horsepower. And, to return to the gearbox mention, while the soundtrack of other prototypes has confirmed that the manual is here to stay, those blitz PDK shifts are expected to come from a custom version of the 992's eight-speed dual-clutch tranny.

With the 992 Porsche 911 Turbo now out, the GT3 should land by the end of the year, coming to the U.S. as a 2021 model. And since the 991.2 GT3 came with an MSRP of $143,600 (not including destination charges), you can expect the newcomer's starting price to sit quite close to the $150,000 mark.

PS: While you'll see the said Porscha tackling the Ring at the 0:58 and 2:31 points, you might also want to check out the rest of the clip. For instance, this also showcases the upcoming M3 (5:24) and M4 (0:14), among others.
