Listen to 2014 F80 BMW M3 Exhaust Pops!

Because our little story is based on a video taken by Bridge to Gantry at the Nurburgring, we’re going to start off by telling you what came before this car. The E90 BMW M3 came to the German circuit in 2007, right after its launch, and set a blistering time of 8 minutes and 5 seconds.
That’s about the same as a Ferrari 575 Maranello, and four seconds faster than the 360 Modena. So we’re naturally excited to see what the new one will be able to do with more power and a lighter chassis, and let’s not forget BMW has moved the game to a whole new level in terms of efficiency.

The new M3, which you see in this video provided by Bride to Gantry, has been testing on the Nurburgring for a while now. But this is the first time we’ve been able to hear the new engine pop.

Rumor has it that under the bonnet is a new version of a familiar engine , the 3.2-liter block from the E46 M3, but fitted with at least two turbos for more power and better efficiency. The unit is widely expected to produce 450 hp and 350 lb-ft of torque. That’s an increase of about 7% in terms of power and 18% in terms of torque over the current 4-liter V8. It’s also reasonable to expect a 20% increase in fuel economy.

The F80 M3 will not be ready until next year, when it will be show first as a concept at the 2013 Geneva Motor Show in March. Following that, a production version should be ready and available by September 2013.

Who know what sort of old supercars it’s going to defeat!
