Remember the Tata Zica? Well, that nameplate had to go because the Zika virus took the Americas by storm at the beginning of the year. Instead of the Zica, please put your hands together for the 2016 Tata Tiago, the first Tata to mark the Indian carmaker’s association with football ace Lionel Messi.
That’s fine and all, but would you look at how horrendous the featured image is? As far as Photoshop fails are concerned, this is one of the most appalling I’ve seen. The way Lionel leans on the car, the impossibly bright skin tone, the drop shadow effect under the footballer’s left foot, the way the light reflects on the car’s windows and paintwork, everything is an utter mishmash.

I sure hope the greatest football player of them all has received a seven-figure check for the effort of posing like a calendar girl next to a subcompact hatchback from India. That’s about enough talk about the Argentinian player and the horrors of Photoshop. Now let us focus on this cutesy little hatchback.

The 2016 Tata Tiago has recently been launched in India, with pricing starting at Rs. 3.39 lakh for the Tiago XB with the 83 horsepower Revotron 1.2-liter gasoline engine, going up to Rs. 5.84 lakh for the Tiago XZ with the 67 horsepower Revotorq 1.05-liter turbo diesel. That’s about $4,790 to $8,750 at current rates.

Fuel economy for the gasoline model stands at 56 US mpg (4.2 l/100 km) while the turbo diesel boasts 64.1 US mpg (3.6 l/100 km). There’s seating for five slim adults (but only just), a trunk with a volume of 8.5 cuFT (242 l), in-car connectivity provided by Harman, dual front airbags, rear parking sensors, pretty much everything that one could wish for in a cheap (and probably cheerful) supermini.

The biggest rivals of the 2016 Tata Tiago are Maruti Celerio, Hyundai Grand i10, and Chevrolet Beat.
