A Lincoln official declared in a recent interview that the Blue Oval's luxury brand is currently developing a number of new models, including a sporty model which will be underpinned by the all-new rear-wheel drive Ford Mustang platform.
When asked if a sporty Lincoln model developed on the 2015 Ford Mustang platform is in the pipeline, Matt VanDyke, the carmaker's global head of marketing, replied with a frank "Sure. We won't rule out anything." Speaking to online auto publication Edmunds, VanDyke continued by saying "We know we need added nameplates."

We've reported you a couple of times before that Lincoln is in the middle of reinventing itself, and that process will come to fruition only after a wider range of luxury vehicles will hit North American showrooms. If memory serves you well, you might remember that the first models included in the "version 2.0" lineup are the brand spanking new 2015 Lincoln Navigator SUV and 2015 model year Lincoln MKC crossover.

Further more, the manufacturer unveiled at the 2014 Beijing Auto Show the MKX Concept, hinting at an upcoming global SUV which will become "the third of four all-new Lincoln vehicles due by 2016". So it seems like that sporty, Mustang-based model might be the last to break cover, probably as soon as late 2015 - early 2016.

Unfortunately, VanDyke didn't say anything about how many nameplates will be added in total. Nevertheless, the official acknowledged that the luxury brand has some pretty tough competition, notably German manufacturers.

"Everyone has great products in the luxury industry. Everyone has really great marketing. There is an extremely competitive buyer experience. So we don't think that four new products in four years means that we can sit back, take a break and rest. It is absolutely the beginning, it is the foundation." VanDyke concluded his interview.
