When the premium division of the Ford Motor Company came out with the tenth generation of the Continental, there was a collective gasp over the front-wheel-drive Fusion platform and six-speed automatic transmission. A full-size luxury sedan with the 3.7-liter Cyclone V6 isn’t exactly special, but Lincoln knows how to sour things to a different level altogether.
The Coach Door Edition was revealed in December 2018 for the 2019 model year, and most customers were expecting their cars to stand out in the crowd thanks to the limited production numbers and suicide doors. But no, Lincoln had to make a second batch for the 2020 model year with the same engine, transmission, and all-wheel drive system for $115,470.

Those who want to order an example of the breed have until the end of the month to ring up the dealership, and given this timeframe, we wouldn’t be surprised if production were to total a couple hundred. Even at this price point, there are options such as the Monochromatic Package that can be specified with the Infiniti Black or Pristine White exterior colors.

Based on the Continental Black Label, the Continental Coach Door Edition is available in a total of three finishes for the exterior, including Chroma Crystal Blue. The cabin can be had in Alpine / Chalet Theme or Jet Black / Thoroughbred Theme, but for some reason or another, the second environment can’t be matched with the Chroma Crystal Blue paintwork.

Dual rear-door umbrella holds, illuminated aluminum rear-door sills, a secured pass-through storage compartment, and a flow-through rear center console are included, along with a hard-trim cushion table, tablet/notebook holders, a wireless charging pad, USB and 110-volt outlets, audio and climate controls in the guise of a four-inch display, and special badging. As for the powertrain, Cadillac is rolling on the floor laughing as we speak.

The 3.0-liter EcoBoost twin-turbo V6 produces 400 horsepower and 400 pound-feet of torque, the kind of figures the Cadillac CT6 Platinum and CT6-V don’t care about. If we also take the German competition into consideration, then it’s all the more obvious that Lincoln didn’t pay too much attention to the state of the full-size luxury sedan segment.
