With luxury car market getting the forecast to grow by almost 8% next year, Lincoln is keen to get as much out of this $274-billion business possible. While in recent years, Lincolns were not really special enough to be true luxury contenders, the American brand plans to change that.
They have already started, with great-looking cars like the MKZ, but according to J. Mays, the Head of Ford’s Global Design, "the MKZ is a first small step for the brand." Now, they have announced the opening of its own studio, which will be run by Lincoln’s chief designer, Max Wolff, who was ‘recruited’ from Cadillac but two years ago.

The new center houses a team of 130, which includes designers and clay modelers. Their philosophy regarding style is very simply explained by Mays, who said: "Style is not just poured over the top of engineering. The combination of style and engineering is design."

If the MKZ is anything to go by, then Lincoln’s future may be much brighter than we could have ever anticipated five years ago. Also, after they reestablish themselves on home turf, perhaps they will follow Cadillac’s example and expand to Europe, as the latter will be doing as of next year with the highly-capable ATS.
