Lincoln MKX Concept Exposed at the 2014 Beijing Auto Show

After the Blue Oval officially introduced the Lincoln brand in China on April 17, Ford’s luxury arm unveiled the MKX Concept at the 2014 Beijing Auto Show. Lincoln’s first ever concept premiered outside the United States hints at the American brand’s intention to offer a global midsize premium SUV in the near future.

Stepping outside the angular styling cues of older Lincoln models, the MKX Concept is a welcomed breath of fresh air in terms of design. Showcasing an all-new design language inspired by modern airplanes and motorbikes, the MKX is a far cry from Lincolns of yesteryear.

"Great emphasis was put on the proportions of this concept vehicle," said Andrea Di Buduo, exterior design manager of the Lincoln MKX Concept. "It's a very emotional, athletic design. Its horizontal lines and defined undercuts are gracefully integrated and very sophisticated, yet convey a powerful and dynamic presence."

The aggressive front fascia’s party piece is represented by the slim LED headlights harmoniously integrated in the beautifully reimagined Lincoln split-wing grille, which features horizontal lines that continue as strips of LED accent lights below each headlamp. These strips of light glow sequentially as part of Lincoln's updated approach detection feature – one element of the Lincoln Experiences package.

Lincoln Experiences was introduced on the all-new MKC small utility vehicle. This tech-driven package is designed to create a warmer, more personal luxury car-owning experience. Anticipating and responding to a driver's needs and preferences, Lincoln Experiences offers a warm embrace that begins as a driver approaches the vehicle and continues upon entry and vehicle start-up.

A new interpretation of Lincoln’s signature full-width taillamps dominates the rear of the vehicle, while the sloping teardrop roofline and wide shoulders flanking give the MKX Concept a sporty yet elegant look. 21-inch machined aluminium wheels further enhance the overall design of the vehicle.

By including elements such as a separated front skid plate, heightened ground clearance and reinforced wheel arches, this concept also expresses a bit of off-road capability. Even though Lincoln kept quiet about the concept’s underpinnings, the future production-ready MKX will most probably benefit from a set of turbocharged EcoBoost engines and a slightly modified Ford Edge chassis.

Expect to see the MKX Concept in production form by the end of 2015.
