Like New Orbea Carbon Terra Gravel Bike Is Like a Rally Car Racer on Two Wheels

Long-distance cycling enthusiasts are a very different breed of humans. Most of us would find the prospect of a $5,500 performance bicycle to be an absolutely absurd notion.

But to this handful of dedicated gear heads with dedication for days and the money to match. Have a look at this Orbeon Carbon Terra. A bike gravel racing bicycle with all the exotic components and striking looks of a Ferrari with a similar Latin heritage.

Orbea is a bicycle manufacturer that's called Spain home for the last 182 years. The company started racing at the world-famous Tour de France race in 1932. They've been building bicycles for road, gravel, and woodland trail races ever since. This particular example is for sale via nutsboltswheels on eBay out of Aiken, South Carolina, in completely pristine and brand new condition.

Orbea states on their website that the Carbon Terra isn't a slimmed-down mountain bike or an overbuilt road bike. The Carbon Terra is purpose-built for loose and rough terrain in races that see surfaces made primarily of loose gravel and barely held together asphalt.

As a result, the wheelbase, top tube, and head angle are entirely different from Orbea's road and mountain bikes. Key components like frame, handlebars, and pedals are honed from carbon fiber, much the same as on a supercar. The frame is forged from a singular carbon fiber monocoque, also familiar to any supercar fan. The seat post is from Thompson Masterpiece and the drive train is in a 1x12 configuration. The seller claims it was built with an XX1 Eagle rear derailleur and cassette for the "ultimate climbing range."

The Orbea Terra can be fitted with 700 by 45-centimeter slick tires for higher speeds or 650 by 50-centimeter all-terrain tires for supreme traction over dirt and gravel surfaces too smooth and fine for a mountain bike and well outside the capability of road bikes.

Such equipment is not cheap, even when on a scale much smaller than a full-sized automobile, hence the gargantuan price of $5,500 before taxes and fees right now on eBay. If your passion is for two wheels and no engine, it's worth every penny.
