Hot Rods are probably the coolest vehicles to own and ride at the moment. With all the tech and automatic this and self driving that, a classic low open-top hot rod with side exhausts will surely attract more looks than a Lamborghini Aventador. And if that is not enough for you, how about a hot rod made out of LEGO.
I guess most car-oriented little boys dreamt at least one time about creating a full-size car out of LEGO. Well, at least I did and my plan was also including a small locomotive, which all failed due to my parents’ insufficient fundings at the time.

But if my plan failed, it looks like these two guys managed to use today’s social media websites to raise the amount of money to power their little project - a life-size air-powered hot rod made out of over 500,000 LEGO pieces.

It all started when Australian entrepreneur Steve Sammartino posted a tweet asking for funds to start up his crazy project. Forty Australian patrons provided the cash needed, while Raul Oaida, a 20-year-old technology genius from Romania, got in the project to help with the mechanical aspects.

The impressive piece of work was assembled in Romania and then shipped to a secret location in Melbourne. It uses over 500,000 LEGO pieces and the power comes from compressed air actuating four orbital engines totaling 256 pistons.

Top speed is said to be around 20-30 km/h and you can see the car running in the video bellow. However, they didn’t put the pedal to the... plastic, so that the whole thing will remain in “one” piece.
