Li-Ion Powered Think City Enters Production

Norwegian electric vehicle manufacturer Think announced today it has started production of the Think EV powered by lithium-ion batteries. The batteries in question, built by EnerDel, have a capacity of 22kWh and they are used for the first time in an electric vehicle.

“THINK’s adoption of Ener1’s battery technology is going to allow us to scale up much more quickly in Europe and also be ready to enter the US market later this year," Richard Canny, Think CEO, said when announcing the production debut

"The volume production of these batteries now underway at Ener1 opens the door for THINK to finally enter higher scale production, now that battery supply constraints are behind us."

Until now, the car was using three types of batteries: two lithium-ion ones (made by A123 and Enerdel) and one sodium (made by Mes-Dea).

The Think can achieve a top speed of only 100 km/hour (62 mph) -enough considering it is meant as a city car - and sprints from naught to 100 in 6.5 seconds. During summer and with the heater off, Think can travel in between 170 km (105 miles) and 203 km (126 miles).

The car is being manufactured in Finland by Valmet Automotive, the same company which puts together the Porsche Boxster and Cayman.
