Japanese automaker Lexus plans to develop a premium compact SUV to rival BMW's X1 and Audi's Q3, with a production-ready version to be revealed at next year's Geneva Motor Show.
According to Automotive News, quoting company sources, the hybrid vehicle will be based on parent company Toyota's RAV4 compact SUV, could gain the same hybrid drivetrain found in the Lexus IS 300h, including the 2.5-liter engine mated to an electric motor.
However, a Japanese source claims that Lexus' first small SUV will be powered by a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine as well, a first for the Toyota-owned brand. In addition, the RAV4-based vehicle will be released under the NX moniker.
The hybrid version is rumored to hit the market with a price tag of around $40,000.
