The Lexus RC is set to be launched sometime next year and the beautifully sculpted coupe will be available in the striking new red paint we saw on the one unveiled at this year’s Tokyo Motor Show.
And since it’s Christmas and most of the things you see now around you is either white or red, the luxury automaker felt the need to warn us this is not your ordinary red color. No, it’s a “head-turning hue that is achieved using a combination of a silver and red base.”

This luminous red pain is achieved through a meticulous paint process that uses four base coats of paint and they are baked twice. The factory starts with a base coat of silver ant then applies a clear layer. Next, a translucent red coat is sprayed, followed by another clear one, after which they are baked twice so the color sets in.

The result? Light hitting the paint reflects off the red layer and also off the silver one underneath, adding more depth and a metallic highlight to the red finish.
