Lexus Planning NX Crossover to Sit Below RX

Toyota has filed a patent in order to trademark the ‘NX 300h’ and ‘NX 200t’ names, for the North American market (the US and Canada). The ‘X’ in the name suggests that the new model will be a crossover, and judging by the sizes of engines it will be available with, it will most likely sit below the current RX, in the Lexus range.

The ‘NX 200t’ is expected to feature a two-liter turbocharged engine, which is all new, while the 300h will most likely get the 2.5-liter unit, already used in the ES300h, as well as the Toyota Avalon and Camry hybrids. As the market for smaller SUVs and crossovers expands, manufacturers will be keen to capitalize, and Lexus makes no exception.

No word on when the new model will make its debut, though, but we hope to have more information on it soon, as this is a new direction for the luxury Japanese brand, and we’re curious what their offering the sector will be like.
