Soon after debuting with the LS in 1989, Lexus decided to expand its range quickly and so in 1991, their first grand tourer was born, wearing the SC nameplate and competing with marques like the Acura Legend coupe, Mercedes-Benz SL and Infiniti M30 coupe.
The Lexus SC got to live only two generations, dying out in 2005 as a large posh coupe-cabrio fitted with a big V8 and wearing a lumpy shaped body, the latter probably being the reason for which it didn’t had success. However, the nameplate might return soon, promising to look more shocking this time.

Following the latest rumors about a new Toyota/Lexus sportscar in collaboration with BMW, Japan’s Holiday Auto magazine previewed its July issue and they say Lexus might just add a new car in their lineup, and it might be based on the stunning-looking LF-LC concept.

The Lexus LF-LC debuted in 2012 at the Detroit motor show, coming with the intention of allowing the public to see a bit further into the brand’s future styling for its coupe models. However, the design study raised so much stir, that Lexus was pushed into thinking more seriously to put it in production.

Holiday Auto claim they went behind the curtains at Lexus and found out the concept has big chances to materialize into the new SC grand tourer. The first full-scale clay models for the production version are about to be made this year, while the complete car might be ready in 2017.

Power could be provided by a 500 hp (372 kW) hybrid drivetrain and/or the 450+ hp 5-liter V8 (331+ kW) currently fitting the RC F. The magazine also came up with a new rendering of the possible SC, mostly being based on the LF-LC but replacing some of its ultra-hot details with more down-to-Earth elements, such as some portions of the front vents, headlamps and rearview mirrors.
