Lexus LF-A Roadster to Enter Production in 2014, Hot GS Will Be a Hybrid

Believe it or not, that’s not a rendering we’re showing you here, but an actual car that Toyota dreamed up back in 2008 - an aggressive-looking (aggressive for a Lexus, not for Lamborghini) convertible with a 5.0-liter V10, a sequential manual transmission and a top speed to scare most supercars. We thought the Japanese were a serious bunch, more focused on performance and samurai blade sharp handling than the wind in your hair, but it seems we were wrong.

It might have been the arrival of summer, or the upcoming convertible versions of both the Lamborghini Aventador and the Ferrari 458 Italia, but either way, Lexus will reportedly put the 2008 Lexus LF-A Roadster Concept into production starting in 2014.

Basically, the Japanese luxury brand will have to finish making all 500 LF-A, which should all fall in the hands of Paris Hilton by mid 2013. After that, the company will wait one full year and start making the Roadster, as reported by Automotive News. The plan sounds a bit vague right now, and there is no indication as to how Lexus will make the LF-A shine on an increasingly competitive market three years from now.

Yet the company will surely need a strong halo model to keep attention on the rest of its new offerings that are meant to steal back the luxury crown in the US, where BMW and Mercedes are set to become kings this year.

The first new product, and probably one of the most important is the new GS that’s expected to arrive at the end of this year. It will be followed by the new IS that will share a shortened version of the same RWD platform as the GS. According to the aforementioned source, a hot GS-F is also in the works, but it won’t have a big V8, as the Japanese engineers are reportedly going for some sort of hybrid train instead.
