Using information from 2,000 insurance claims, swiftcover.com compiled its Vehicle Vandalism Index, revealing that the most likely targets of car vandals are prestige models. Among the cars that people just can’t stand for whatever reason, the BMW Z4, MINI One, Mercedes Benz CLK and Audi TT all rank highly.
"Our analysis shows that luxury cars are more likely to be targeted by vandals, however, it's interesting to see the MINI One in the top three," said Robin Reames, claims director at insurer swiftcover.com. "The majority of vehicles in the top ten are what we call 'executive cars', likely to be driven by high earners who see their car as a status symbol, with just one 4x4 making up the top ten."
A big surprise to us is that the Skoda Octabia is more likely to be vandalised than a BMW 5-Series. However, the fact that 4 of the Top 10 were BMW shouldn’t come across as unexpected. Even more impressive is the fact that the inconspicuous Mazda MX-5 is more hated upon than a footballer’s car like the X5.
