Japanese luxury maker Lexus wants to empathize with its Chinese customers by offering them what they want: big cars with lots of technology. Thought it might not sound like it at first, the Lexus model that was on display at the 2013 Shanghai Auto Show is a world debut.
It might seem like your regular 2013 model year GS sedan, but the powertrain is new. The GS 300h is, as the name would suggest, a hybrid. It's powered by a 2.5-liter, four-cylinder petrol engine with D-4S direct injection technology, and a compact electric motor.
Downsizing the engine from the 3.5-liter V6 will result in improved economy and reduced emissions. The 300h puts out only 110 grams per kilometer of CO2, which is quite impressive for an E-segment saloon.
The new model will go on sale in various markets later this year. Lexus UK has already announced its intentions to put the GS 300h on sale late this year.
