As vehicles these days tend to come with all sorts of designs that block out your rear view surroundings, US’ National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) recently announced that all vehicles less than 4500 kg must have reverse cameras as standard by May 2018. Well, Lexus is a bit ahead of the other automakers as all its models now have this features... at leas in Australia.
Along with the introduction of the entry level CT 200h model on the market, Lexus Australia announced that starting with April this year, all its models in the range will come fitted as standard with a rearview camera system. This makes it the first luxury automaker to offer such technology as standard.

Despite the fact many new vehicles today come with a large infotainment display on the central console or top of the dash, most manufacturers prefer to offer such an important active safety system as optional equipment for extra cash. NHTSA conducted a study and estimated that a rearview camera system costs around $132-143 per vehicle.

Of course, if this goes full scale the price will drop considerably... after all, if you already got the infotainment display, all it needs to be added is the actual camera and a couple of wires.
