With only two weeks left ahead of the 2015 Geneva Motor Show debut, Lexus is looking to test the waters with a new concept hinting at a future small city car, positioned right under the compact CT 200h.
Rumors, rumors everywhere, as the 2015 Geneva Motor Show is close to opening its doors to journalists and fans. A potential surprise could come from Lexus, as the luxury-wannabe carmaker is looking to add a small city car to its fleet.

Despite Lexus denied such intentions in the past two years or so, recent speculation suggests that the Japanese manufacturer will introduce a sub-CT 200h model in Geneva. Now, if we ignore the fact that Lexus is more indecisive than a teenage girl regarding this matter, Motoring is reporting that Lexus is likely to produce a direct competitor for the Audi A1.

If this is true, the new Lexus minion-sized urban-oriented vehicle will most likely use the underpinnings of the Toyota Yaris and will present itself as a five-door hatchback, allegedly entering the market in 2018. In addition, we shouldn’t be ruling out the scenario in which Lexus will produce its very own version of Toyota’s iQ city car, given the fact that there’s a precedent for that, if you remember the Aston Martin Cygnet.

It is worth mentioning that according to Autocar, these rumors were fueled last year in September when Tokuo Fukuichi, global head of Lexus design, suggested that the prospect of adding a smaller model to the Lexus range is something the company is seriously taking into consideration.

In the engine department, the new city car is expected offer a choice of downsized turbocharged petrol units and maybe one hybrid version, but it would've been better if we heard that from Lexus.
