Lexus Commercial Shows 2016 LX and LS Flagships Taking "Different Routes" to the Top

Lexus USA has just released two commercials promoting its extra-large flagship models, the 2016 LX 570 SUV and the LS sedan cousin.

Along with the videos, the company has also updated its website with information regarding the 2016 LX, which starts from $89,820 USD, $6,640 more than the outgoing model. Significant cosmetic changes have been brought in order to make the Toyota Land Cruiser twin into a more luxurious model.

The familiar spindle grille design has been used to decorate this body-on-frame SUV as if it were some nimble sportscar. The chrome inserts might not be for everybody, but the LED headlights are undoubtedly a nice touch.

Also standard on the 2016 LX is the Pre-Collision System (PCS) with Pedestrian Detection, a smart cruise control system that works at any speed, a bird's-eye view camera, park assist, 10 airbags and a new Turn Assist feature which can also tighten your turning circle by adding brake force to the inside rear wheel.

The few features that are optional and cost extra include a Mark Levinson surround-sound stereo system for $2,350, a rear entertainment system for $2,005, and a color heads-up display for $900.

The two recently revealed commercials are all about showing how the 383-horsepower 5.7-liter V8 can be used to carve a new route to the top. It's a metaphor for getting ahead in life, but because they're literally carving a new road, the joke is spoiled.

The LS doesn't have 2016 upgrades, but it received a new infotainment system and suspension tweaks last year. The standard powertrain now is a 4.6-liter V8 mated to an eight-speed automatic transmission, while the top-of-the-range LS 600h L extended wheelbase version (not shown in the video) is powered by a 438 hp hybrid system comprising a V8 and an electric motor, both sending the power to all four wheels.

Editor's note: At the end of one video, the girl gives the guy a "stop showing off your driving skills" look, and he responds with a "you know you love the cockiness" smile. He's like a dressed up version of the Old Spice guy.
