Lewis Hamilton, three-time Formula 1 World Champion, has expressed his desire to make a special edition model based on a Mercedes-AMG production car.
The British F1 star introduced the 2017 Mercedes-AMG GT R at this year’s Goodwood Festival of Speed, but he claims that the finished car was ready before he knew about it.
Hamilton claims he had many ideas which could not be added to the GT R model, but he hopes he will succeed in his plan of building “an even wilder” vehicle in the future.
Hamilton believes the new Mercedes-AMG GT is “pretty awesome,” but he still hopes to do something according to personal specification in the proximate future.
While the F1 pilot did not reveal any plans regarding a future AMG product, he claims that talks with Mercedes-Benz are already underway. Company officials have yet to comment on the matter.
In an interview with the Australians at Motoring, Hamilton revealed his intentions and stated that he would be “very hands on” regarding the development of the future limited-series model. The racing driver believes his experience will enable him to create “something very special” with the aid of Mercedes-AMG.
Hamilton has been with Mercedes-Benz since he was 13-years-old, so having his name on a production car from the automaker would be a dream come true. He claims the objective with the limited-edition Lewis Hamilton Mercedes-AMG car would be to make clients feel “as close as possible” to what the F1 star feels in his open-wheel racer.
If you asked Hamilton, the car that would carry his name would have a V12 engine, but Mercedes-AMG might have a different opinion on the matter.
The car might also feature active aerodynamics, just like the GT R, and other elements to adjust downforce in certain situations. At the end of the day, Hamilton’s dream of having an LH Mercedes-AMG car could come true if the sales and marketing departments come together to develop a robust business case for the proposed model.
